The IndieDevDay 2023, which took place this past 8th, 9th and 10th of September, was the first event in which we participated presenting the videogame BeeTheBest 💛
The fair, held in La Farga de l’Hospitalet, has been a success in terms of participation. The whole industry was there: from associations, companies, studios, influencers, institutions, to a space for students to present candidacies and help refine the curriculum and portfolio.
The organization was fantastic and we felt accompanied at all times 🎉
For this event we created a series of Merchandise that have been very popular. Among which stand out the making of a series of limited edition stickers and magnets!
At a development level, we were coming from a pre-alpha and a change of programmer in the team and we had been working in order to be able to present the 1st Alpha → Version 1.0.0.
We achieved this by introducing a number of changes to the videogame:
- Inclusion of sabotaging elements per level: bird, pesticides and pollution
- Implementation of a record system with a dedicated ranking screen with a special prize for players who enter the Top-10 (magnets)
- HUD redesign for summer season to show which flowers the Queen requests
- Implementation of new Art – Flowers, Environments and Characters
- New animations of the Queen, the flowers and the characters
- Redesign of the controls screen
- Testing the functionality of the learning tree
It’s been a very positive experience and despite finding that people expect a good level of visual finish that doesn’t align with the stage of development we’re in, it’s been very well received and everyone playing it had a great time trying it out in group.
Many of the comments we received referred to calibration or polishing issues, primarily related to improving the feedback of player’s actions on a sensory level.
While we’ve met our release goals, after seeing how people have interacted with the game, we’ve realized that we’ll be making some changes to the seasons design and level structure. At the end of the day, we want to make the game as intuitive and accessible an experience as possible, and that means thinking for both adults and children.
Here we share with you some pictures of how it went:
